The Beaumont Youth Basketball Association (BYBA) is a community, volunteer-based organization that provides basketball development programs to kids aged six to seventeen to the community of Beaumont and the surrounding communities. Since the BYBA was formed, the BYBA has provided opportunities for over 1500 youth in Beaumont and the surrounding community to learn and develop in the game of basketball.
Kids that live within the town of Beaumont or attend a school in Beaumont or kids that reside within a surrounding community that does not offer a local youth basketball program are eligible to play in the BYBA.
Beaumont Basketball teams play within the Edmonton Youth Basketball Association (EYBA) and the program runs from September to March each year. The EYBA is responsible for game and referee scheduling throughout the year. They maintain a website for information and post all the game schedules and game results. They provide a disciplinary component for the league in order to enforce fair play and compliance. We work closely with and are a part of the Alberta Basketball Association.
The BYBA program emphasizes development and fun, fitness, and achievement as goals for all participants. We believe that winning is not the only goal in youth sports, and is secondary to learning teamwork, dedication, and having fun. We want our players to enjoy playing and practicing the sport of basketball in an inclusive and positive environment.
The BYBA also practices the Responsible Coaching Movement, including the Rule of Two, background screening and ethics training.
We also promote Abuse-Free Sport which is an independent program that is part of a growing national movement to rid Canadian sport of all forms of harassment, discrimination and abuse. They aim to prevent maltreatment at all levels of sport across Canada through education, training and research.
