Season and League Details

Practice Schedule (U11 - U18):
Teams will get one 1.5 hour practice time per week (subject to gym availability). Practices start mid-September and continue until early March. Earlier times are allotted to the younger age groups, with later times going to the older age groups.  Please note that occasionally practices will be canceled due to school events, such as holiday concerts. If extra gym time is available, coaches can work with the Gym Coordinator to get a different gym time due to cancellations.

Team Evaluations:
Evaluations are planned for late August/early September, with the goal of forming teams.

Team Formation:
Community Teams will be assembled based on the skill level of the players. A competitive team will only be formed if enough players have signed up for the program and showcase the appropriate skill level during evaluations. Teams may be transitioned from a competitive to a community level, or vice versa, depending on their performance. (EYBA re-seeding).

Game Schedule:
Competitive Teams will participate in the EYBA seeding tournament in September to determine their placement for the upcoming season. Regular season matches are expected to begin in the first week of October, with playoff games wrapping up by the end of February or the start of March. For teams that qualify, the ABA Provincials take place in March.

Venues:
Practices are held at gyms located in and around Beaumont. Games are hosted at a variety of locations, including the Saville Center, Legacy Athletics, the EYBA Centre, Buckets Basketball Academy, and various school gyms throughout the Edmonton area. A full list of venues can be found here

Game Nights:
All Community divisions game take place on Saturdays with the ocasional  Friday night. Competitive division games for the Girls program are typically on Wednesday nights, while the Boys are typically on Tuesday nights.

Re-seeding:
Teams will undergo several re-seeding assessments by the EYBA throughout the season, which may result in moving to the community division (i.e., Tier 3).

Alberta Basketball and Canada Basketball

Alberta Basketball and Canada Basketball are committed to providing exceptional basketball programs that encourage growth, development, and enjoyment of the game. All registered participants benefit from a variety of supports designed to nurture a love for basketball.

Starting this year, the registration fees will be itemized differently. Canada Basketball's fee has increased to $9.00 for the 2024-2025 season, and the ABA fee has also seen a modest increase. For better transparency, these fees are now listed separately. This change supports several new initiatives, including:

·      Creating an ABA Coaches Community to enhance coaching development and expand NCCP capacity.
·      Supporting member clubs and organizations with competition and player development initiatives.
·      Increasing recognition of ABA members' achievements.
·      Launching the ABA Blue Whistle Program for new officials this fall.

We are thrilled about the upcoming opportunities in the 2024-2025 membership year, including:

·      The 50th Anniversary Celebration
·      The inaugural ABA Hall of Fame inductions
·      2025 Alberta Summer Games
·      2025 Canada Summer Games
·      2025 Youth Provincials
·      2025 ABA Club Invitational Championship
